As you look back in to the history of memorable Disney Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs ceramic sets, each era features spectacular standouts that are sought after by serious collectors. Those Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs sets stand above others because of their quality, workmanship, classic features and attention to detail.
In 1938 and 1939, Brayton’s Laguna Pottery created the very first ceramic figures of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs for Disney. Although the ceramic colors did not look exactly like the characters appeared in the film, it was primarily because in the 1930’s they could not duplicate the specially mixed paints employed in the animated motion picture. Brayton’s Laguna Pottery, however, did set the standard for the craftsmanship of depicting Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs.
Starting in the early 1940’s Evan K. Shaw and the American Pottery Co. manufactured what many feel was the most beautiful Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Set. These beautifully detailed and vividly decorated ceramic characters are considered to be the best representations of the classic image of Snow White and Dwarfs. As collectors of Disney ceramics from all eras, we were impressed that when we visited Frank and Jeannette Thomas at their home, the only Disneyana item that they displayed in their living room was a set of Evan K. Shaw / American Pottery Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs!
The Hagen-Renaker Company also created a delightful miniature set of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs with their Designers Workshop release sold at Disneyland in 1958. Walt Disney himself personally labeled the Hagen-Renaker ceramic representations of his animated characters, “the finest three-dimensional reproductions of the animated drawings that I have ever seen”.
This 1970’s / 1980’s set of Snow White and The Seven Dwarfs which you are bidding on here on eBay measures up to those same standards of quality as shown by the Brayton-Laguna, Evan K. Shaw, and Hagen-Renaker manufacturers that preceeded. The facial features of each Dwarf is wonderfully true to character. Snow White’s look and pose is stunning. Snow White stands approximately 11” tall. Each Dwarf is about 7” tall. All 8 of these fine pieces are in excellent condition for being about 40 years old.
